NZSSD Hinengaro - Psychology SIG

The purpose of the Hinengaro - Psychology SIG is to bring together Aotearoa's specialist diabetes psychologists and diabetes psychology researchers to connect, share and develop resources, education and guidance, learn from each other, facilitate and work on projects, research, government submissions, service development activities, provide case consultation, advocacy and work with the wider NZSSD Executive and Membership to meet our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the NZSSD Constitution.  Our framework is always to ensure culturally safe practice that enhances the hauora of those living with diabetes in Aotearoa.  This SIG is our only opportunity to do this in our mahi and most diabetes psychologists work in isolation within their MDTs with no other diabetes psychologist, making our hui and SIG essential for providing safe care for people living with diabetes in Aotearoa.

Objectives are to connect our rōpū together and work in line with our purpose and the NZSSD Constitution.  We regularly produce NZSSD Webinars, present at our ASM and contribute to guidance, resources and other education as required.

We aim to meet 4-6 times per year via zoom and hui dates are set at the beginning of the year.

Our remaining hui for the rest of 2027 are on 14th October and 8th December.

Our 2026 NZSSD webinar will be delivered 6pm on 21st October on Managing Needle Anxiety and will be available for members to view shortly after if they are unable to join live on the day.

Current leads of our SIG are:

Dr Jo McClintock, NZSSD President and Clinical Psychologist at Waikato, Te Whatu Ora

Lisa Allen (Hoyle), NZSSD ASM Convenor and Health Psychologist at Counties Manukau, Te Whatu Ora.

Our emails are Joanna.McClintock@TeWhatuOra.govt.nz and Lisa.Hoyle@TeWhatuOra.govt.nz

We use a google group to connect our SIG together.
