Purpose and Background

The New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD) is an incorporated society that is open to those involved in the care of people with diabetes, and is a registered non-profit charitable organization. The Executive Committee and Secretariat of the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD) maintain this website to enhance public access to information about diabetes and disorders of glucose metabolism, reduce the suffering and early loss of life from these and related medical conditions, and communicate with the NZSSD membership and other health professionals.

Intended audience

The information on this site is aimed at not only members of the general public but also health professionals working in the field of diabetes in New Zealand, and members of NZSSD. As such, members of the public accessing this website who are not qualified health professionals, should be aware that any information contained here is designed to complement and support, not replace, your relationship with your health provider(s) – please seek assistance from an appropriately qualified medical professional should you have any concerns regarding diabetes or any other health issue.

The NZSSD is a registered charitable organisation. It receives funding from membership subscriptions and from the proceeds of annual scientific meetings. The society administers research awards.
