The Aotearoa College of Nurses, and the NZSSD Pharmacy and Diabetic Foot Special Interest Groups welcome you to an online study session: Wednesday 11th August 2021 4pm – 6pm 

Peripheral Neuropathy and Pharmaceutical Management 

This session will include: 
• A demonstration on how to carry out a foot examination. 
• Vanessa Brown an experienced Pain Specialist Pharmacist will discuss Diabetic Neuropathic pain Pathophysiology and treatment options – the old and the new.
• Bobbie Milne and Claire O’Shea will each present a case history with diabetic foot neuropathy. 
• There will be time to discuss assessment and treatments options. 

About the Speakers: Vanessa Brown is a specialist palliative care pharmacist (BPharm, MPS, Postgrad Pallcare, Postgrad Clin pharm). She joined the Clinical Facilitator team at Health Hawke’s Bay/Hawke’s Bay District Health Board in 2012. Vanessa’s role is focused on appropriate prescribing of long-term medicines, in primary care, for complex and elderly patients. Vanessa works as a specialist pain pharmacist as part of the HBDHB chronic pain team and contracts to ACC to complete medication reviews for pain patients. Vanessa has completed post-graduate qualifications in both Palliative Care, clinical pharmacy and Pain management. She enjoys being fully integrated in the many multidisciplinary teams in which she works and helping with the complex medicine challenges that primary care faces every day. 
Bobbie Milne is the current Clinical Nurse Manager of the Whitiora Diabetes Service at Middlemore Hospital, Counties Manukau, has MSc (Nursing), and is a Nurse practitioner. She has been working for the Whitiora Diabetes Service for the last 30 years and has always worked in the Diabetes Foot MDT and is passionate about reducing amputation rates. 
Claire O’Shea is Lead Podiatrist at Waikato DHB. She has a MHSc and coordinates the Diabetes MDT foot clinic at Waikato. For a majority of her career she has worked with people with diabetic foot disease here in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Since 2009 Claire has been involved with NZSSD and helped in establishing the Diabetic Foot Special Interest Group.
