2021 ASM, Wellington 14 and 15 May 2021

14 Dec 2020

The 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting will be held at Wharewaka, on the Wellington Waterfront, on 14 and 15 May 2021

We will hold a face-to-face meeting for our NZSSD ASM next year, with the ability to transform to a hybrid or virtual meeting if need be.

In order to keep costs down and reduce risk if the meeting needs to be altered, we have made a few changes this year. We will hold the meeting on a Friday and Saturday, as many of you have requested a Saturday meeting in the past. This will be on the 14 and 15th May, and we have booked the beautiful Wharewaka Function Centre in Wellington We decided to change location to allow ease of travel and limit the number of nights’ accommodation required. Of course, you can stay on in Wellington for the rest of the weekend if you wish.

One of the biggest financial risks for the ASM planning is catering and social functions as these need to be paid in full prior to the meeting. We have decided to limit catering during the meeting to morning and afternoon tea, and will programme a longer lunch break to allow people to go out for lunch in one of the nearby cafés or a picnic on the waterfront. We will also not plan for a gala dinner this year.

We will not be holding SIG meetings alongside the ASM this year but will have regular webinars throughout the year led by each of the SIGs. You will hear more about these soon.

Put the 14-15 May in your diaries now.

We will open registrations in February.

Abstract submissions will close 28 February. We still have all the submitted abstracts from last year. We will contact you next year but please think about whether you would like a) the abstract submitted last year to roll over to this year, b) the abstract to be updated, c) the abstract withdrawn, d) to submit a new abstract. Feel free to discuss this with us. We will have prizes for presentations as usual.

Please consider nominations for the Bob Smith Award Bob Smith Lectureship

Research awards and travel grants will continue, and we will update you with more information about these next year.

We look forward to seeing you in May 2021 in Wellington.

Nga mihi
