IntentionProfessional development awards are available to provide financial assistance to members of NZSSD to undertake further development within the field of diabetes care and management.
Eligibility Criteria
- Current financial member of NZSSD for minimum of one year.
- One application per person per year.
Award Numbers and Value
- There is a maximum of eight awards available each year, two per quarter.
- The amount awarded to an individual will be at the discretion of the Executive Committee of NZSSD.
- Maximum amount awarded to an individual is $1,000.00.
Application Cut Off Dates Each Year
- 31 January
- 30 April
- 31 July
- 31 October
Examples of Types of Activities Awards May Be Used
- Study expenses to contribute to costs of a higher degree or course associated with the individual's career/training directly related to advancement in diabetes care and management.
- Visits to other specialist centres where there is a defined purpose and relevance to the individuals' career and area of work.
- Attendance at an international diabetes meeting.
Application Requirements

- All applications must include
- A clear reason for the application - what do you want the award for?
- Provide a summary of your current role and how the award will contribute to/benefit your training/role and enhance care in diabetes management locally and/or nationally.
- How your chosen activity aligns with key national/local priorities.
- How the key learnings will benefit your professional development and enhance your clinical practice.
- How you propose to share your learnings eg. presentations to peers, articles for publication etc.
- A letter of support from your manager to confirm they support the proposed study/professional development activity and how it will contribute to local needs and priorities together with confirmation of what financial support is being provided by the employing institution or a rationale why funding is not available.
- A clear outline of the overall cost of your chosen activity and how much you are seeking via this professional development award.
- The length of time you have been a financial member of NZSSD
- Outline details of any previous professional development grants received from NZSSD.
Award Reviews and Decisions
- Awards will be considered at the NZSSD executive meeting following each cut-off date. The executive meets the second week of each month.
- Each applicant will be contacted via email by the NZSSD secretary shortly after the executive meeting with notification of the outcome and to request account details for payment of the award if successful.
- Award decisions made by the executive committee are final.
